Insight to the life of a blind peron

How does it feel to be blind?

Blind people who never gave up in their lives

When we see a blind person, we think about them for only a while. If the entire world is blind, we would never see sunrise or sunset. But hearing the birds chirping would tell us that it is sunrise. And sounds of the night-calling insects would make us realize about the night. Running for catching the train will not happen anymore, thus saving many lives from accidents. Maybe vehicles would be automatic and which will also save many lives. Instead of seeing waves coming towards us, we would only feel the wet sand and waves touching our feet. We will give more importance to the sounds and vibrations happening around us. We would never have fear from the darkness as we would be living with it. We may not keep any expectation of looks for our soulmates.

The sound would help us to find locations. The noise of the vehicle horns will tell us about the direction of the roads. When the noise stop, we would realize that it is a red signal. We may not see the rainbow but would feel the raindrops falling on our faces and the fragrance of wet mud. We would be able to differentiate flowers not with their colors but with their scents. We would know the call of each bird species and could mark the progress of the seasons with their song. While playing instruments, we will feel those vibrations so heavenly as if it would be liquid energy seeping right through our skin. None of us would wish to become blind.

The one born blind does not struggle emotionally. But the ones who lose their sight do. They feel incompleteness. Some blind people see complete darkness like in a cave. Some see visual hallucinations that may take the form of shapes, colors, and flashes of light. They dream while sleeping though their dreams are more about sounds, odors, flavors, and feelings. The one who loses sight might see images in his dreams. Some of us help them but some stare or back away from them as if they are infectious. A blind person is more confident when he truly accepts his blindness.

They want to be understood and listened to by us. Overweening kindness by us can also hurt as that would be an insult. For example, to help cross the road or drop at a destination when asked only for direction. Those even feel like sharing life stories with a friend, stranger, family member, or colleague. They are never ashamed of having visual impairment.

We end up with a mistake when we see or meet a blind person. We say, oh no, she is blind. But maybe she would be happier in her life than us. The disability is for the onlooker. We must be curious to listen to their experiences. They have strong willpower. They can do anything once they have decided. Seeing the beauty in the darkness is something we all must learn from them.
